OROVILLE, Ca. - Lake Oroville was RED HOT for the Future Pro Tour’s northern region season finale last weekend on Lake Oroville, as just about every team in the field not only caught a limits of fish, but also found fish in just about every area on the lake.

Shane Robertson, and Mike Osborn came out on top however, and with the help of a 5.77-pound kicker, claimed 1st place honors, two custom trophies, and $2,060 in cash for their performance.

"We caught the big one on an A-rig", noted Shane at the brief and socially-distanced awards presentation. We had a decent limit early, but knew we had a chance to win when we landed that big fish”, he added.

Congratulations Shane and Mike on a well-deserved victory!

Team Dassonville capture RAM Truck Angler of the Year title

The main thing to be said about the tour’s newly crowned Ram Trucks Angler's of the Year, Shawn and Lloyd Dassonville, is that they have been on a winning streak all year long. Even with a COVID-19 shortened season, this dynamic duo came out of the gate “fast and furious” claiming a win on the California delta, then at the very next event, managed to  "crack the code", on a very stingy bite, to win Lake Camanche.

And now with a top ten finish at this final event, they have successfully captured their second Ram Trucks Angler of the Year title!

The Future Pro Tour’s motto has always been that we help "Develop Champions", and these two certainly resemble that statement and have made the FPT brand proud with back-to-back AOY titles.

A Bitter-Sweet victory

But with the sweet also comes the bitter, as by FPT rules, it is mandated that a second AOY win, requires a team to move on from FPT competition, and apply what they have learned at a higher level of angling competition.

Please join us in wishing both Shawn and Lloyd much success in all of their future tournament fishing endeavors.

Cayden Mendenhall captures Youth Angler of the Year title

The good news is that the Mendenhall household can FINALLY return to normal, as young Cayden Mendenhall totally fulfilled his dream of becoming the FPT’s Youth Angler League’s - Angler of the Year.

“He worked his butt off for this thing, stayed focused all day, and was determined to get a good limit and win the title”, noted Cayden’s dad – and mentor Mark Mendenhall. He is a very tough competitor, is learning how to be a good sportsman, and we are so proud of him for reaching his goals… we cannot wait for next year’s tour!”

Well that brings to a close what has been for us the most challenging season in the Future Pro Tour’s 18-years of hosting events. With all of its difficulties and challenges - together, we made it through safely, and sincerely thank each one of our members and participants for their patience and understanding throughout this year of uncertainty.

It is our sincere wish that everyone enjoy a safe and happy holiday season, and we look forward to seeing and serving you all in 2021!
