"All in the Family" – Tom Peirson wins Delta Shootout event with 3rd generation angler

For some of us, as we age, the famous cliché “life is short” gradually becomes an everyday mantra, and with each passing day we relish in the memories of the past - but still look forward to the future, and the hopes of securing some of the dreams still left on our “bucket lists”.

For Tom Peirson, a seasoned angler and father of a Coors Light FPT Classic Champion Shane Peirson, that “bucket list” became a bit shorter as he fulfilled another one of his personal life-long dreams:

To win a big event fishing with his 13-year old grandson and team partner, Conner Urling.

And with that dream - and a tackle bag loaded with River2Sea “Bling” series spinnerbaits, Tom did just that, as he and Conner navigated through a maze of 133 other teams, to hone in on a not-to-well-known area of the delta that had been holding good fish for the past few weeks.

A field of 134 anglers particitpated in this annual Delta Summer Shootout!

Tom indicated that their pattern was to fan cast, and slow-roll spinnerbaits through key ambush areas, a technique which produced for them, a final day, 10-fish weight that went 36.76 pounds.

But this was no “fluke” win.

This year, as a team, Tom and Conner have racked up three top 10 finishes in the past four FPT northern region events, to put themselves at the top of the pack in the race for the coveted 2017 Ram Trucks “Gut & Glory” Angler of the Year title.

“Words cannot describe how elated I am right now”, Tom stated, as he and Conner addressed a large group of anglers that stayed for the awards ceremony. Just two weeks ago, my son Shane and I won the 2017 Bass Pro Shops Open as a team, and now to win this big of an event with my grandson and the families 3rd generation angler, is almost too good to be true”, he added joyfully.

For their big victory they received $3,080 dollars!
